Duchamp is a great British success story. The company traces its origins to France and the chance discovery by the founder of a cache of 10,000 vintage cufflinks in a Paris flea market back in 1989.

This led two years later to the launch of a London-based luxury goods business concentrating on men’s accessories. Appropriately enough, the founder was reading a book about Dadaism at the time, and decided to name the new company after the French surrealist artist Marcel Duchamp.

By 2002, Duchamp launched their first shirt collection and we were ready to become Britain’s leading men’s accessory brand,

Despite the name, the ‘Britishness’ of the brand was a given from the word go and continues to be one of Duchamp’s greatest strengths. The same craftsman in Birmingham has produced the cufflinks since the company was founded, while all of the ties are handmade in England. The fabric is woven in England by a Suffolk based company that dates back to the early 1700s and is one of the oldest still designing and weaving silk in the UK.

Although Duchamp now offers everything from trench coats to trousers, the core of the collection is very much occasion wear for men who love dressing up, with velvet tuxedos and evening dress shirts for events from big nights out to a day at the races. The brand has proved to be a huge hit with the wedding market...after all Duchamp is all about the feel-good factor, and what could be more important than feeling good on your biggest day?

Hugo Boss was first formed in 1924 in the German town of Metzingen. Originally a supplier of workwear, the company then went on to create clothing for the Germany Army during the Second World War. After the war the company rebranded itself as a fashion company.

In 1960 the first off-the-peg suits for men were produced, laying the foundations for the company's future success.

The BOSS brand – with its high-quality men's collections – was launched in the early 1970s. This was the era of extremely narrow shoulders and two-button, single-breasted blazers. BOSS was registered as a brand in 1977.

HUGO BOSS introduced its tri-brand strategy in 1993. Two new brands, HUGO and BALDESSARINI, were added to augment the core BOSS brand. HUGO's progressive, innovative style and BALDESSARINI's luxurious, sophisticated appeal opened the doors to new target groups for HUGO BOSS fashions.

1999 saw the launch of BOSS Orange. The casualwear line provides an additional platform for sports- and leisurewear within the HUGO BOSS brand world – flanking the classic and elegant BOSS Black collection and the younger and more progressive HUGO brand.

In 2003 BOSS Green (formerly BOSS Golfwear) is repositioned within the HUGO BOSS brand world with a new concept: Functional materials and BOSS fashion know-how are synthesized in this everyday apparel with a sporting twist. The result is a coherent collection with strong colors and high-impact looks.

Tommy Hilfiger has become almost like a household name for some. The company is one of the most famous designers in the fashion world.

Thomas Hilfiger grew up in an Irish-American family in Elmira, New York. Hilfiger never did what his parents wanted him to do. Instead of pursuing a career in engineering; Hilfiger would take trips to New York City and buy jeans. He would then customize them and resell the jeans in a downtown Elmira store called Brown's.

Later on, Hilfiger opened his own store called The People's Place. This store became very popular with the teenagers. In fact, it became so popular that it held more social functions than it sold clothing. Because of competition from a a new mall; the Amot mall, Hilfiger's shop went bankrupt. He was only 25-years-old.

Hilfiger moved to New York City and continued to design clothing. Both Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis offered Hilfiger design positions but he turned them down with ideas of greater plans.

Soon Hilfiger became known for his signature line in menswear. He was also known for his jeans line which he expanded to include women's wear as well.

The Tommy Hilfifer collection is preppy, inspired by American classics and finished with a modern edge.

In 1914, Bernard Gantmacher arrived from Ukraine to New York City. Empty handed, but determined to make a better future for himself, he enrolled at Colombia University, studying to become a pharmacist. To finance his studies he worked night shifts in the garment district of the Lower East Side. His first job was to sew shirt collars and he soon proved to be a master at the sewing machine. There he met his future wife, Rose, who was working as a button and buttonhole specialist.

In 1927, the couple moved to New Haven, Connecticut. The city was the center of a booming textile industry and Bernard set up business as a sub-contractor, making shirts for other labels.

Gant were quickly recognized as skilled shirt makers and became trusted partners for some of the most notable brands of the time. To satisfy the many customers who wanted to make sure they were getting the same high quality every time, Bernard started labeling the shirts with a diamond "G". Soon everybody was talking about the "G-shirt" and demand far exceeded supply.
